Wingham Optometry Clinic has a long history of providing eye care to the community and surrounding area.
Dr. G.A. Williams originally provided optometry services for over 40 years in Wingham before selling the practice to Dr. Kevin Hagerman in 1990.
In 2011, Dr. Hagerman sold the practice to Dr. Laura McCarthy and Dr. Kathryn Alton. Dr. Hagerman did continue to work with Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Alton for several years, and retired from optometry in 2019.
In June 2021 Dr. Alton sold her share of the practice to Dr. McCarthy. This allowed Dr. Alton to give full time attention to her growing clinic in Palmerston. Dr. McCarthy took over as sole owner of Wingham Optometry Clinic at that time.
Having grown up near Fredericton, New Brunswick, and then graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2007, Dr. McCarthy has now been settled in Wingham since 2011. She has two daughters and enjoys a number of pastimes including hockey, baseball, hunting, reading and personal fitness. She takes pleasure in working in Wingham and providing eye care to this community. She has recently updated equipment for lens edging to provide a faster glasses service to patients. A more advanced and complex Optomap retinal scan instrument and Visual Fields instrument have also recently been purchased allowing for important early detection in a number of eye conditions.
Dr. McCarthy feels very fortunate to have Dr. Stephanie Doorn on staff, who joined the clinic in 2016 as an Associate Optometrist.
The doctors and staff at Wingham Optometry Clinic are dedicated to providing the highest quality eye care and customer service to their patients. They have a great passion for helping people and look forward to continuing for years to come.
